14 and Under Tryout Information

15 and Older Tryout Information

Tsunami Columbus Volleyball is dedicated to offering a family style, non-threatening environment while instilling a love for the game, technique mastery, and self-confidence in each individual. Here are some common questions:

Does your club program cut players? NO, we do not believe that any player should be cut at such a young age since this is the most complex sport to learn.  If a player has the skills to play in a competitive situation and on a team they will be selected to participate on a team.  Any players who are “deemed” new to the game or beginners will be offered training opportunities.

When are tryouts?

17U Open Gym 7:30-9:00

What is commitment night?  Commitment night is a night for us to celebrate those players and families who committing to training and playing for Tsunami Columbus.  Commitment night for all ages groups will be on Wednesday, Nov. 9th.  This year the 14 and under players are able to commit as early as Oct. 18 however committing on this date will guarantee a position on a selected team.  Tsunami Columbus supports all volleyball middle school programs and we would like them to enjoy their middle school season without feeling the stress from club volleyball programs.  Due to our support for all players and middle school programs we will offer tryouts throughout Oct with the final makeup/call back being on Nov. 6th.

On November 9th we will hold our mandatory club celebration for all committed players and age groups.  This will be a club wide celebration for players, families, and coaches along with an information meeting about the upcoming season. During this evening the first initial payment of $400 will be due along with player and parent documents.

When is the club season?  The season runs from November 9th  last schedule tournament (Usually in April) unless players participate in season extension to participate in AAU Nationals at Disney World in Orlando, Florida.

Will there be a season extension? A season extension may be offered to qualifying teams to attend the AAU Nationals in Orlando in June.  This is the largest event in the world for volleyball. Players must commit to this season extension by Jan. 10 to reserve their slot on the teams attending.  No players will be added after Jan. 15th unless injury occurs.  Slots will be reserved by a non-refundable deposit submit on or before Jan. 15th.  Teams may be formed for AAU based on positioning tryouts. The season extension will not interfere in high school events since it is against GHSA rules to mandate summer practices.

What does the season entail?  The season will provide the players with extensive technical training, team training offered through 3 day a week practices and up to 6 tournaments depending on the age group and level.

Who will be my coach?  Coaching staff will not be assigned to teams until all coaches have submitted their final schedules based on their family, work, and school commitments.  All coaches will interact with each team throughout the season so players will receive diverse instruction for skill mastery.

When will be practice? Practices will be 3 days a week from starting as early as November and ending as late as May 1. Players should be committed to participating in any combination practices days and schedule.  M/T/W/Th 5:00-9:30, Sundays 1:00-9:30.  Due to having so many players with so many different hobbies, schedules, etc we can’t accommodate personal requests.

Will we get apparel?   Through our sponsorship with NIKE, our apparel package will include 1 bag, 3 practice shirts, 2 spandex, 3 jersey, warm-up suit, (Knee pads, socks, and shoes are not included).

Are there any hidden costs?  No, we are upfront about our fees.  The only costs that parents may see that are optional and extra will be travel costs such as food, gas, hotels, player goodies bags, etc.  Other costs that are optional are parent shirts, tournament souvenirs, etc.  One additional cost that players will see will be for team food tables which will be decided by each team.  Jump training will be offered by our Coach Brad and Katrina Hill who are the team Strength and Conditioning coaches.

How much is the club season and what does it go towards?  The club season is $1,400 with the option of spreading those payments out over the month, November, December, January, February, and March.  All club fees will be collected prior to April 1.  Club fees cover the following:  All player apparel, facility use, rent, utilities, coaching stipends, player insurance, player membership fees, equipment use, and 6 month of extensive training.
